Tax included.

This much sought after String of Pearls, possibly the most delicate succulent plant there is. They have long spindly tendrils, lined with fleshy bead-like fronds. Its long vines look beautiful in higher positions or hanging containers.

The little beads which are actually leaves, look like pearls, hence the name!

Although beautiful, it can be a little fussy when it comes to caring. It likes its soil on the dryer side as it is very vulnerable to rot and it needs to be in a consistently warm, bright spot. In winter, when less light is available, reduce watering to an absolute minimum.

Growing pot size: 15cm plus hanging hook. We advise buying a larger decorative pot size as the lip of the hanging pot makes it slightly bigger

Overall plant height including growing pot: 20-25cm

Toxicity: Keep away from nibbly pets and curious children.

Key Benefits of the String of Pearls - Senecio rowleyanus

Reduce Stress and feel happier

The soil most plants grow in contain microbes that are also called ‘outdoorphins’, they work as natural antidepressant agents stimulating serotonin in our brains helping us feel happier!

Plant Care Tips: String of Pearls

  • Place your String of Pearls in an area with 2 to 4 hours of direct sunlight per day. If you don’t have a suitable space they also thrive in fluorescent light throughout the day.
  • As a succulent, the Senecio rowleyanus should be dry before giving it a good soak. A good sign that it needs water is when the beads start to flatten
  • Warm temperatures in the spring (between 21 and 27ºC) and cooler temperatures in the winter (13 to 16ºC) are ideal.
  • Succulents are not big fans of humidity, so if you are in a dryer zone, perfect! There’s no need to mist this one!
  • Use a balanced liquid fertiliser every fortnight during the growing season and reduce feeding to once every 6 weeks in the colder months.
  • Due to their fast-growing habit, it’s recommended to repot this plant every year during the spring, use a medium with drainage holes and regular well-draining potting soil. Sandy mixes are preferred.
  • You can propagate it during the Spring and Summer by taking cuttings of about 4 to 10 cm and putting them in damp soil or direct in water. New roots will form where the beads are attached to the stem.

The String of Pearls Story

The scientific name Senecio means 'old man', referring to the fruits' hairy appearance, and Curio refers to the curiosity of many species' appearance across the genus.
