The Ananas comosus produces a single ornamental fruit at the centre of a crown of delicately coloured foliage. Also known as Dwarf or Miniature Pineapple plants, they have smaller fruits than the pineapples we’re used to seeing in the supermarket. It is grown more as an ornamental plant and the fruit it produces is edible but very bitter. When the pineapple drops off, you should get pups in the soil which you can re-pot and grow into whole new plants.

Piney won't stop pupping!
My miniature pineapple 'Piney' was given to me as a present. Piney was one beautiful plant when I received him - perfect spray of green with a perfectly formed tiny pineapple in the middle. Amazing to look at (no, I didn't eat him). I'm no gardener, have terrible history with plants (watering is random), but Piney is one heck of a survivor. I put him on my window ledge and watered him (randomly). Sadly, after some time the fruit - ultimately - will be over (Piney stops watering him) so I removed him (beautiful though he is). I was tempted to try a bit... but... I didn't (I regret this!!). Result... Pup mayhem. I've now got multiple Pineys probably rivalling your stock of miniature pineapples. Today I'm rehousing them all. All 7 of them. I'd recommend if you buy this plant get the biggest pot possible!! This is one amazing plant. Now for another fruit...

Lovely plant
I really loved the pineapple plant I ordered from Bloombox. First one came and it was damaged but they immediately sent out another one, They have great customer service. The next one that came was lovely, it was in perfect condition, it was a Christmas gift and they loved it too
