The Bromeliad 'Elegant Flames' Plant Story

Where is it from?
Bromeliad aechmea originated from South America they can be found growing in Tropical and Subtropical regions. They were introduced to Europe around 1826 as a new and exotic House plant, from there they have been cultivated to create beautiful and unique colour patterns!

Who is the Bromeliad 'Elegant Flames'?
The Elegant Flame gets its common name from the brightly flame coloured flower. This tufted flower is actually not a flower at all, they are a specialized leaf called a bract that protects the true flower. The true flowers bloom towards the end of the plant's life cycle before the plant produces new offsets.

Good For You!
Air Purifying! Bromeliads and Guzmania are excellent air purifiers, they absorb natural household toxins and pollutants.

Is the Bromeliad 'Elegant Flames' the right plant for me?

A bright and cheery plant that is sure to be a new favourite! The Bright colour and low maintenance nature make this the perfect gift.

Like the Guzmania, the Bromeliads belong to the same family, this is known as the Bromeliaceae, or the pineapple family! These flowers are adapted to growing on trees and on rock faces. Water the centre of the leaf rosette where the flower spike comes out of. This water will slowly drip down to nourish the plant. Being semi-epiphytic they prefer loose barky well draining soil.
