Plant Care Tips: Calamondin Orange Tree
- Calamondin trees can grow indoors and in shade but they thrive if grown in full sun.
- They prefer warmer temperatures, from 21°C to 32°C and will struggle below 12°C. In colder months, it’s a good idea to bring them inside and keep them in well-heated rooms. Place the plant by the window to receive light.
- Water thoroughly once or twice a week, be more generous during extended dry periods. Do not soak it. Make sure the soil is dry to the depth of 1 inch between waterings. Feed it during the growing season with full strength, water-soluble fertilizer.
- Wipe any dusty leaves with a clean cloth to avoid infections.
The Calamondin Orange Tree Story
The plant is more suited to warm climates but it can also grow in cool, frost-free areas. It lives well when planted in containers.
Where is it from?
Although introduced to North Americans around 1900, they only started being exported to the US in the early 60s for use as houseplants. From then, their popularity started to grow worldwide.

Is The Calamondin Orange Tree The Right Plant For Me?
An easy to care for and tough plant, it will suit even the most inexperienced plant lover if the care tips are followed correctly
Remember that citrus trees like warmer temperatures so, if you live in a colder area, you need to bring it indoors and keep it in a well-heated room.
How tall does it grow?
It can grow as high as 10-20 feet, but it’s very unlikely as an indoor plant with the correct pruning.
*Please note that, at certain times of the year, although fruit trees are not as full, they are equally beautiful. With the correct care, as they approach the growing season, they will blossom beautifully and produce the most gorgeous and tasty citrus treats!
Your new Calamondin Orange Tree: The Fruit
The raw fruit, but it’s very tart and should not be consumed.
There are a few things we’d like you to note;
- Please do not eat the fruit. Growers use plant protection substances to avoid infestations.
- You could try eating the second harvest, but only if you use safe ingredients to protect your plant. Generally, we recommend not eating the fruit.
