The Guzmania 'Candy' Story

Where is it from?

Guzmania plants can be found growing on trees and rock faces, in the tropical rainforests of Ecuador and Peru.

Who is the Guzmania 'Candy'?

The Guzmania ‘Candy’ gets its name from the brightly coloured tufted flower. The vibrant ombre is truly a beautiful combination. The tufted flower is actually not a flower at all, they are a specialized leaf called a bract that protects the true flower. The true flowers bloom towards the end of the plant's life cycle before the plant produces new offsets.

Guzmanai belong to the same family as the Pineapple! These flowers are adapted to growing on trees and on rock faces. Water the center of the leaf rosette where the flower spike comes out of. This water will slowly drip down to nourish the plant. Being semi-epiphytic they prefer loose barky well draining soil, and their roots can not handle being watered directly.
