The Fuzzy Petiole Plant Story
Where is it from?
Fuzzy Petiole is native to the Rio Nangaritiza valley, Ecuador, in South America.
Who is the Fuzzy Petiole?
Fuzzy Petiole is a popular, newly discovered and rare species of Philodendron that was first propagated from tissue culture. It is an Aroid with no official name, commonly named for its fabulous fuzzy red petioles.
It is often compared to Philodendron Verrucosum however the foliage is lighter in colour and Fuzzy Petiole is a much easier plant to care for. It’s fast-growing and offers beautiful luscious foliage, with a bumpy texture. In their natural environment, these aroids climb in the canopy, so as a houseplant it will benefit from trellis or bamboo to climb, and regular repotting if you’d like it to reach its full potential height of around 2 metres tall!
The unfussy Philodendron is okay with most average household humidity levels, but it will really thrive in high humidity! Mist or place on a tray of pebbles to increase humidity, or place in a bathroom/steamy kitchen.
Is the Fuzzy Petiole the right plant for me?
Are you a collector of rare plants? Do you love vibrant colours? Is there a low-lit corner of your home that could do with a flash of green? Or a humid room that could do with some foliage? If you’re looking for an easy-care rare Aroid and something that makes a conversation starter, this fuzzy and fascinating houseplant could be just what you’ve been waiting for. The Fuzzy Petiole is un-fussy and low maintenance, so makes a great gift for keen houseplant collectors and newbies alike.
